I thought it was about time for the standard book review to get a little makeover. Who doesn’t love a good makeover, right? Welcome to my new monthly feature:
Here you’ll find the DL on what I’m reading – maybe even read along with me! You’ll also find a little more detail about the book I just finished below. This month’s “just finished” is a must for style bloggers everywhere:
Suri’s Burn Book
By: Allie Hagan
Written from the hilarious “point of view” of mini style maven, Suri Cruise, Hagan captures the fashion sense of celeb-children at their best (and their worst). I’d give you a better description, but I think “Suri” says it best:
“Here you will find the authoritative guide to everyone from Pax Jolie-Pitt to Sasha Obama to Elizabeth McAdams-Gosling (Okay, I made that last one up. What are you doing with your life, Rachel McAdams?).”
Here’s 3 things you need to know:
1. This is a quick read – I finished it in a matter of a couple days.
2. I have a Kindle (the old school kind) and this book would have been better in color – so if you’ve got a Kindle Fire, AWESOME, but if not, you might want to buy the physical book.
3. You will LOL during this book with quotes like this RE: the adorable Violet Affleck’s pairings of haute and not: “Get it together, Violet. It can be fun to mix designer labels with more affordable, Target-chic pieces – but it’s even more fun not to.”
While Suri obviously had no part in this book, no one can deny that the little girl’s got a style all of her own and Hagan does a great job of making you forget that we aren’t actually reading Suri’s words. I have a feeling us fashionistas might need to look out for her pretty soon especially with this challenge: “Give me a pair of heels, a frilly dress, and a classic Burberry trench, and I’ll out-outfit every girl in the industry.”
Read it, ladies – laughter is good for the soul and your soul will (in the words of Rihanna) shine bright like a diamond after this one. Sorry if that’s in your head all day now, it’s been in mine. o_O
I’ll leave you with one more little gem RE: little miss Shiloh Jolie-Pitt and her “interesting” outfit choices – plenty more where this came from:
“What I have a problem with is Shiloh consistently choosing ill-fitting, often stained menswear. Her closet must look so much like a war zone that pretty soon her mother’s going to want to adopt children from there.”
