Someone really smart once said, “Everything happens for a reason.” And I’ve always been a big believer in that. Especially when it comes to shopping. “Oh, they don’t have those expensive shoes in my size?” Fate.
“You mean they’re out of the cognac-colored purse I don’t need?” Not meant to be.
But sometimes, fate intervenes in just the right way. Case and point?
There was one pair left in the clearance aisle of Target. One pair, in my size. And they were $17. I have always wanted a pair of Sorels (the legit version of this style of boot), but living in Southern California, aka the land of no seasons, I don’t have much of a need for $150 snow boots. As in, no need at all. But, as fate would have it, just a few days before stumbling upon these boots in Target, I booked a little vacay with the hubs to Salt Lake City. And (again, fate) it just so happens that it’s supposed to snow the day I get there. SCORE.
I put them in the cart, along with the cell-phone case, dog treats and gummy vitamins and before you know it ($100 later) they were heading home with me, all ready for our big snow day. I got home and decided to check the receipt so I could basque in the amazing deal one last time, but much to my surprise, they weren’t there. I scoured the receipt a few more times – I felt guilty and excited all at the once.My husband and I clearly remembered the cashier ringing them up and placing them in our eco-friendly Target bag, but the Target Gods must have been smiling down on me that day. And I decided that when fate and Target mix, you just don’t mess with that.
Was the scanner broken? Was the cashier not paying attention? Was this payback for the hundreds thousands of dollars in impulse buys I’ve made there over the years? Was it just my lucky day? I guess we’ll never know. But let’s keep it our little secret, ok? I wouldn’t want to tempt fate.
