I love no-alarm Saturday mornings. I mean, I love all mornings that don’t involve an alarm, but Saturdays are kinda the best. I tend to spend an extra 15 (or 45) minutes in bed perusing Instagram, checking RueLaLa and, on occasion, buying random Groupons. Uh, at least that’s what I did this Saturday. But who wouldn’t jump on the chance to spend $8 for $16 worth of grilled-cheese-goodness?
Cut to three hours later:
We ended up here – The Grilled Cheese Spot. Located in the “Artist’s District,” it’s a hidden little [cheesy] gem in the heart of Downtown Santa Ana. And let me tell you, there’s a whole lotta grease going on in there. But don’t worry, I got a diet Coke.
I ended up going with a provolone grilled cheese on multigrain bread and added bacon (duh), avocado (duh) and tomato. It was pretty awesome. I could have done without the chips (they were, as I mentioned, greasy) but I wanted the full experience. Mike wasn’t really a fan – I don’t think he got the right combo, but I’d say overall, calories well spent.
Apart from that stomach ache.
What’s your favorite way to make a grilled cheese? At home I stick to a similar combo, but I love the more “unique” options here like brie, ciabatta, prosciutto, etc. Spill! I mean not literally – what I meant to say is dish! I should stop with the food puns, I know.
