That’s the question, right? It’s been so hard for me to avoid succumbing to the subscription beauty fad. I’ve heard mixed reviews from friends and fellow bloggers, but just haven’t been able to pull the trigger on signing up. I mean I love getting mail. Especially good mail. But I have a few major turnoffs when it comes to the whole “subscription” thing.
1. I’m pretty stuck in my ways when it comes to a lot of beauty products – I’m a creature of habit and stick with what I know, and what works.
2. Curly hair. That is all.
3. When I have to pay something “monthly,” I think of phone bills. Or the mortgage. And I’m not sure I’m ready for that kind of commitment when it comes to sample size makeup and body wash.
Lucky for me, when my hubs got back from his last work conference, he pulled out a few things from his swag bag – an Uber gift card, a Roku box, and oh yeah, something called a BIRCHBOX. I was
a little excited ecstatic.
Here’s a peek at what was inside. After my initial excitement and utter glee while unwrapping the adorable package (pretty brown box?! patterned lining?! hot pink tissue paper!?) I was completely underwhelmed with what was inside: a Juicy perfume sample (meh), a decently-cute nail color (I’m kind of a nail polish snob so not crazy about the brand), some cool sunscreen (legitimately excited to try), dry shampoo (again, curly hair) and some (very sweet-smelling) shaving cream, which I needed for my travel bag anyway.
Liking two of five things doesn’t seem like a great ratio to me. And while sometimes I see AMAZE stuff in others’ posts about their Birchboxes, I wonder if each month, I’d end up paying $10 for one or two travel size newbies, and continue filling up my pile of never-gunna-use-hand-me-downs for my nieces.
Are you a Birchbox (or other beauty subscription service) subscriber? What do you think? I’m still torn and would love to hear your thoughts!
