the new year has me thinking a lot about basics – the pieces in your wardrobe you know you can mix and match until holes or stains tear you apart from each other. i recently had to toss one of my favorite basic pieces – my boatneck navy/white striped shirt from H&M from several years ago – because of a tiny hole that kept getting bigger and bigger with each wash (RIP). naturally, I replaced it with a couple new basics to fill the gap: Everlane Ryan tees. and man are they good.
i’ve talked about Everlane tees on the blog before, but i hadn’t tried the Slouchy Pocket Tee until now. and now that i have them, i don’t know how i ever lived without them. they’re truly one of those staples that you have to have. they’ve got the perfect slouch (and are TTS – I’m wearing an XS), without being overly baggy and unflattering. the material is super soft and the white is just the right amount of sheer (as in, not a lot).
i also picked up the Madewell black cardi last week during a 40% off promo (how did i not have a black cardigan in my closet)? and the purchases inspired me to not only do a big closet clean out to get back to basics, but to also identify where my “wardrobe holes” are. i.e. a perfect pair of black pumps (like these), a classic navy blazer (a la J.Crew), and some distressed skinnies. i actually made a wish list on my phone to make sure i stay on target while shopping over the next few weeks/months (and to try and avoid impulse buys like another grey sweatshirt or pair of Pixie pants).
what are your closet holes? anything on your have-to-have list?
